Gender, Climate, and Systems Interlinkages

2 December
15th AWID International Forum, Bangkok, Thailand

As total climate breakdown looms, global economic and social inequality gets worse every second that transformative action is not taken. At the same time, there are a myriad of obstacles standing in the way of true transformation. Fragmented environmental governance systems do not reflect the connectivity of ecosystems, global economic governance is dominated by private interests, and the people who have contributed the least to climate change are the most impacted, with the fewest resources to respond to it. This panel will present a systemic, feminist analysis of climate change as an antidote to the current dominant framing. Each speaker will present their analysis in dialogue with an active chair who will pose questions to each speaker and weave in questions and insights from the audience. The panel will also launch a new Global South-focused research and advocacy initiative aimed at changing the narrative of climate change responses.

Speakers will include Anita Nayar (Regions Refocus), Erica Levenson (Regions Refocus), Mariama Williams (Global Afro-Descendant Climate Justice Collaborative), Maureen Penjueli (Pacific Network on Globalisation), and Noelene Nabulivou (Diverse Voices and Action for Equality). Join us at the AWID Forum.
